Love Aaj Kal: Movie Review

Imtiaz Ali has always loved making romantic films and he is back again with Love Aaj Kal. He had also made a film of the same name earlier, in which he compared the love and manner of being in two different periods of time. Two similar stories and they have shown in Love Aaj Kal of 2020. One story goes on in 1990 and the other in 2020. There has certainly been a lot of change in the way of love and express, but the feeling of love is there.

Zoey (Sara Ali Khan) has an attraction towards Veer (Karthik Aryan). The two often meet at Raghu’s (Randeep Hooda) cafe. Raghu narrates his 30 year old love story to Zoey. Karthik Aryan is again in the role of 30 year old Raghu. This Raghu wanted Leena (Aarushi Sharma). Zoey connects the strings of her love story with Raghu-Leena’s love story. Sometimes she is confused. Many times its paths are closed and many times it is seen opening.

Through this story, Imtiaz Ali has told many things which are coming out layer by layer. Boys and girls of Zoey’s age often get confused whether to make a career or get lost in the world of love. Hence, most avoid commitments. Sex is merely a physical activity for them and they want a relationship without commitment. But love is love, it goes without even wanting.

Zoey is a girl today and has set up to the age of 55. She does not want to fall in love’s ‘affair’ for 25 years and wants to settle down first.

He also seems to be confusing his mother’s words. The mother wants her to be able to earn money first, then get married. When she focuses on her career, a relationship comes from a rich family. The mother wants her to leave everything and get married. Mother gives him practical knowledge and explains the importance of money.

Zoey does not understand whether to pursue a career or settle down by marrying a rich boy whom she has never met or decide to spend a life with Veer with whom she sees her ideal relationship.

She does not consider herself capable of balancing professional life and personal life and does not understand what to do. The love and commitment with which she is terrified has happened to her. Veer, on the other hand, has some funds of his own. He does not want compromise in any relationship.

Imtiaz has written and directed the film. Imtiaz’s films often feature characters in Confuse, and he has continued in this film as well, but here, convictions are produced on the basis of situations.

Imtiaz has tried to cover many things and has shown that the world is not so easy. If you want ‘love’, you also need ‘money’. Balance should be maintained. Compromising for money is like putting a stone on the heart.

The matter gets entangled and resolved through the mutual talk of the characters. And that’s how the film moves forward. The film was to end at a juncture and Imtiaz too ended the matter somehow. Now it is up to the audience that they give priority to their personal life.

Many scenes in the film are excellent and many are said. Confusion of characters emerges. Questions and answers start in your mind about what is right and wrong.

Imtiaz has chosen a difficult way of speaking. Two stories he has run parallel to. Then he cast Karthik Aryan in the role of Randeep Hooda’s past, which may cause some people to understand the film.

Raghu and Lina’s love story initially goes well, but later, after getting off the highway, they start walking on bumpy roads. Raghu, who loves Lina more than himself, starts walking on the wrong path and the writing here becomes weak. Later the story of Raghu-Leena creates annoyance.

However, it is from the love story of Raghu-Leena that Zoey gets the answer to her love story and this was to be the master stroke of the film. The difference between 1990 and 2020 is not much, it would have been better if it had been more.

The editing of the film should be vigorous in such a presentation and the work is done well by Aarti Bajaj. Editing this film must have been a tough challenge for him.

Karthik Aryan’s performance is better than average. He did a little over acting in the 1990 character. The 90 round is shown to be excessively outdated. He is better in the 2020 character.

Sara Ali Khan looked confident. She has acted openly and she is going on a film by film. Randeep Hooda then showed what a great actor he is. They should do more and more films. This is Aarushi Sharma’s first film and she makes an impact.

The music of Imtiaz’s films is excellent, but there is no such thing in the music of ‘Love Aaj Kal’. There is a lack of hit songs and love stories must have hit music. The cinematography of the film is superb. Technically, the film is strong.
