new Delhi. India cricket team opener and vice-captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the ODI and Test team against New Zealand due to a calf injury.

Rohit suffered an injury during the batting in the 5th T20 match against New Zealand on Sunday after which he could not field again. Rohit had scored 60 runs in this match and he retired after that.

Captain Virat Kohli was rested for this match against New Zealand and in his absence Rohit took the command of the team. But after Rohit got injured, he was captained by wicketkeeper batsman Lokesh Rahul.

Rahul, however, said on Rohit’s injury after the match that he would recover in a few days. But it is now understood that he is out of the ODI and Test team against New Zealand.

Before Rohit, opener Shikhar Dhawan could not join the New Zealand round due to injury and now Rohit’s exit like this is nothing short of a shock for Team India.

India has to play a 3-match one-day series with New Zealand from February 5 and then a two-Test series between the two teams. Significantly, India defeated New Zealand 5–0 in the Twenty20 series.
